So There’s This Surfer Receiving Food Stamps & Bill O’Reilly Is Pissed

Bill O’Reilly recently labeled Jason Greenslate a parasite, beach bum and moocher. But if you ask Greenslate, he’s a professional surfer who happens to live off of $200 in SNAP benefits  because “It’s free food. It’s awesome.”

Twenty-nine year old Greenslate recently appeared on Fox News as part of their “The Great Food Stamp Binge”.  Bill O’Reilly is using the show to highlight examples of people and their “parasitic” behavior when it comes to food stamp abuse.

From Raw Story:

“The food stamp scandal, right now, 15 percent of the entire American population receiving food subsidies,” the Fox News host announced. “And some of those people are conning the system.”

O’Reilly said that the president was to blame for changing the work rules for food stamps and allowing “anybody to get them if they know how to game the system.”

“I take one look at this guy and he’s making money off the books,” he explained. “Now I’m not going to make any accusation on national television about how he’s making money, but this guy’s not just surviving on food stamps. Alright? He’s making money. The rat life entails a lot of different things.”

“But this guy is a parasite. And my contention is that the Obama administration is encouraging parasites to come out and, you know, take as much as they can with no remorse. And this is how a country declines. This is how we become a weak nation.”

Take a look at Greenslate in “action” as he describes his typical day that consists of  “Wake up, go down to the beach, hang out with my friends, hit on some chicks, start drinking,”

In California, Greenslate is just one of 4,169,854 (as of May 2013) receiving SNAP benefits.   Although SNAP is not intended to be the only source of income for food, there are many people and families that rely on it.  USDA data show that only 20 percent of SNAP participants have no income, while the rest either earn wages or receive government assistance.

Even though studies show that 99% of food stamp recipients do not defraud the government, I find it quite comical that the Fox crew searched the depths of the beach to find this dude.

Totally rad of you, Fox.

If O’Reilly has proof that Greenslate is actually “making off the books”, maybe he should do his due diligence in reporting fraud, instead of trolling for ratings.

Bait and switch, show a white guy, but attack black people.

I guess they couldn’t find a Black person — at least one that is not legitimately receiving food stamps.

Who oh why white people cannot admit (publicly) that (when completely counted) that they are the majority, when it comes to which race is using that Benefits card as if it was a AMEX Centurion?
And when there is a TV special in which it focuses on welfare recipients, they always show the 2520s with the “sob story”. They either show:
    -the wounded, unemployed war veteran
-the widow (usually a war widow) and mother of seven children, who lives in Heartland, America, in a shack.
-the ‘Proud to be American’ elder who is embarrassed that he/she has to use food stamps to survive.
-The white person who has been unemployed for five years because their job at the lumber mill has been out-sourced.

And what do they show, in regards to a black American?
-That one person who fulfills the stereotype of “Welfare Queen”.

**whispers** you use the term “2520” too?

yes because filthy rich white people aren’t milking the system for all its worth every minute and second of the day. as i type, someone just convinced a senator or congressman or the president to approve their shoddy product or ignore the environmental damage their company is causing.

what a joke our system is.

Exactly! O’riley is full of it! I bet he doesn’t consider himself a parasite, though by his definition, he is.

Just another way to blame the president. People have been playing the welfare game for years. there are so many claiming single but married, working under the table but saying they dont work and doing everything imaginable to recieve benefits. this did not start when Obama was elected.

The same parasitic behavior that “won” this country from the American Natives and Mexican Natives. You gave a little and took a lot! Just like the plight of the African American slave. You took everything and gave nothing. Only learning from the examples you set! Take what doesn’t belong to you or what your entitlement deems that you are worth!!.

I’ve been muttering it since this morning, when I was given an assignment that belonged to another co-worker.
People have been thinking that I am reciting lottery numbers.

I love how this surfer dude could get SNAP benefits and me who was in school full-time and doing student teaching for my degree didn’t qualify for it or Medicaid for that matter. But I will stop short of bashing our president and just be grateful I start a job very shortly. I will say this, instead of worrying about Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, President Obama needs to work on his Obamacare health system and stop scaring people into trying to get health insurance that they either don’t or can’t qualify for or can’t afford.

Who knows if that story is even true? Remember the Shirley Sherrod and ACORN lies?

        Thank you!

I made it halfway through watching the video before the fakery became unbearable. This whole thing is SO suspect. It feels forced. Faux News staged the whole thing just to take a jab at Obama. They must think people are stupid. *folds arms across chest* Hmpf

Oh I bet Bill is pissed alright but, not for what you think he’s pissed off because this is yet another example of somebody WHITE shown to be living off welfare. See this knocks down all the Blacks are welfare parasites and scam frauds narrative many of the Right go with. Then to put it on President Obama laughable because how can we connect this issue involving somebody black, oh yeah lets make it the President’s fault. Some people once again needs a damn history lesson because the whole system of welfare was created to assist poor whites, who have higher number of being on it than black people. Remember that white girl who recently died from Michigan who had won half a million on some lottery, and was found to be still accepting benefits right up until the media heard and before her death. With others they make you jump through hoops to even qualify for it.

If OReilly is so concerned about people gaming the government, then why won’t he do a segment of some of his republican buddies receiving agricultural subsidies while not growing nary a crop?

Some of this was going on way back when the POTUS was just Barry from Hawaii. Thing is, people would rather deal with the mess that goes on at social services to get free food. I saw this guy on TV and he eats better than I do (They showed him getting Ahi fish from the high-end grocer deli counter so you know that’s like dining out)

However, a recent health diagnosis has forced me to get on the public assistance boat and I am not happy about it. Hoping to get what I worked many yrs. for (SSI) but I’m not holding my breath.

At least they profiled a white guy??? But why is he blaming Obama for an age-old problem?

      @cupcakes and shiraz

Did you not watch the video? Obama signed away all restrictions for welfare so now even healthy young losers can mooch off the system. Pay attention!!!!!!!!!! Why are you commenting if you don’t even understand??!!!

The package of insurance reform and Medicaid expansion via state-run insurance exchanges collectively referred to as Obamacare is certainly not a perfect to solution to the health insurance crisis facing America.

However, let’s stop contributing to the atmosphere of histrionics and misinformation surrounding this piece of legislation, folks. Those at 133% of the federal poverty line (that means those below, at, and even a little bit above federal poverty guidelines) will receive heavliy subsidized exchange coverage. A sliding scale with respect to out of pocket premium payments will be implemented for those above 133% (I concede that I don’t know what the upper limit of that sliding scale is, though). The salient point, however, is that the federal government is neither scaring people into insurance, nor expecting already poor people to purchase coverage that they cannot afford without significant subsidies and financial assistance. The entire aim of the ACA is to expand coverage by making insurance significantly more affordable. You may not like this particular remedy, but let’s at least be forthright about its terms.
