Rachel Dolezal Is Planning To Name Her Son After One Of The Greatest African-American Poets

VICE/BROADLY

Rachel Dolezal is just full of unfortunate surprises these days — although we guess that’s kind of her M.O. Either way, a day after we found out the woman who gave the world the fake movement of transracialism is modeling weave on the gram, she’s also revealed the namesake she’s planning to pass down to her unborn son. She told Vice’s women’s site Broadly:

“I’m naming him Langston because of Langston Hughes’ ‘Mother to Son’ poem. Life hasn’t been easy for me at all, but I keep going. I’m still climbing, so don’t you sit down and stop. You keep going, and I want that to be a lesson for all my sons.”

While Rachel refused to comment on the child’s father (because you know we’re all wondering if he’s actually black; therefore adding a little credence to this Langston name), she did explain why she decided to keep their baby, telling the site, “I couldn’t handle any more loss.”

    Dear Clutch,
Please stop showcasing Rachel Dolezal news. It’s getting to be ridiculous. Thanks.

Yes! I was just about to post that. Enough of her already!

Agreed. There are enough websites giving attention to this crazy woman. Please don’t make this site one of them. This site should be about empowerment not making black women upset.

      @gg

Exactly! Please let’s stop giving her press and attention because we are keeping her story alive and giving her what she wants. Who cares what she names her son.

Ironically it’s mainly black spaces and people that are still paying attention to this woman. Stop giving her the attention she seems to desperately desire! Nothing she does should be considered relevant.

I honestly don’t get all the hate directed at this woman. If she wants to claim black, then let her, who is she hurting? Has zero affect on my life.

And I agree, so NOT an interesting story.

Lynn, the anger stems from the fact that she can claim Black until Jesus comes back, but she’s a fraud. She isn’t Black. What’s more, she can throw off that “Blackness” at the drop of a hat and regain (as if she ever lost it) her White calling card. She hurt people when she faked being Black in order to get a scholarship while attending Howard University. She took that slot from a real Black woman. People’s lies always hurt, whether directly or indirectly.

I forgot about that Howard scholarship, thanks for reminding me!! Yeah, that’s messed up.

But about the other stuff, if she wants to take on being black, then let her. Sure she can go back and claim white whenever she wants, but in the meantime if she wants to risk being profiled DWB, getting the worst table in a restaurant and all the other little things black folks have to put up with in Amerikkka, then have at it. It seems like she was at least trying to do good work while she was at the NAACP. Which is more than you can say about a whole lot of real live black people. It’s not like there’s going to be an epidemic of white folks suddenly pretending they’re black (like Paul Mooney said, everybody wants to be black but nobody wants to BE black).

There’s also the possibility that she really does think she’s black. If you (not you specifically, but the general you) buy the concept of a male-born male believing he’s really a woman inside, then I don’t see why that can’t apply to someone believing that they’re a different race. That idea was widely ridiculed back when this story first broke, but it makes a lot of sense to me. I know more than a couple of black people who for all intensive purposes are completely white-acting and have been since they were very little. And I don’t just mean the “acting white” charge that we sometimes sling at each other for talking proper or whatever.

Also, neuroplasticity is a real thing. Scientists have studied transgendered brains, but have they studied people who think they’re another ethnicity? Yes, I’m going there, I think that in the future, science might actually say that transracialism is really a thing, maybe a culturally-specific form of body dysmorphia. I’ll probably get flamed for this! 🙂

I personally feel she’s mentally ill, so the best thing we can do is just have sympathy for her and basically leave her alone.

You’re welcome. Lynn, I understand where you are coming from, but to me, people like Rachel are problematic. She might publicly claim Black, when when she’s driving, eating at restaurants, or conducting her daily business, I’m willing to bet she pulls her White card whenever necessary. To me, the problem is dishonesty. Yes, she did invest her time at the NAACP. We know some of the founders of the NAACP were White, so that’s nothing new. Again, her dishonesty is what causes me and some others to disregard her. For people like you who have compassion for her, that’s okay with me. We all have our points of view. 😀 Black people have many allies among various races. In fact, I think as a White person, her leadership at the NAACP might have been more worthwhile as she could, as a White person, fight discrimination and possibly open the eyes of her skinfolk. She’s a liar, Lynn. Regarding her thinking she’s Black — let me say this, if I think I’m White, is that going to change my experience? If I think I’m rich, will that make me rich? No. If a person is Black, they are Black regardless of what they think regardless of what science claims. If a person has a penis, he’s a man. I’ve never heard of a man with a vagina and vice versa. I understand transgendered people go through reassignment surgery, but does that change the person’s chromosomes? We are what we are. Perhaps I’m narrow-minded, but nevertheless, those are my beliefs. I will agree that she is mentally ill, but I’m sorry, Lynn, I don’t have sympathy for her, and YES, I wish Clutch would leave her alone.

I agree with you on the transgendered thing. I just thought it was extremely illogical that folks were falling all over themselves last summer praising Caitlyn Jenner for being so brave and speaking “her” truth while at the same time vilifying Dolezal as a fraud. Why is one boundary being policed and not the other? It’s all mental confusion to me. . . what a strange culture we live in.

“There’s also the possibility that she really does think she’s black. ”

Except this white woman is fully aware that she’s white and has continuously flexed her white privileged. From the faking of hate crimes, suing an HBCU for not accepting her because she’s white, to alienating afro-latinos…she kept proving that she’s in on the farce. The sad part is people like you who fall for it. Race and gender are two different things. Anyone who claims “transracial” like this fool is basing their “identity” on stereotypes of what they think the race they’re claiming to be is. She fetishizes blackness and black womanhood.

I dunno. I work with mentally ill people every day and they are not always consistent or make sense. Just my opinion. Not defending the woman.

Rachel should be disagreed with because for her lack of integrity, honor, and transparency. Rachel has issues to put it lightly.

truth, not hating on someone isn’t the same as agreeing with them. I don’t agree with her actions; I just think she has mental issues and is to be pitied. Her 15 minutes are up and I don’t think she’s newsworthy.

Certainly, she has issues. I agree with you that we can disagree with her actions and realize that there are more important issues that we should discuss as a community. I appreciate your commentaries.

Stop co-signing her fuckery. She needs to be forgotten about she is nothing special to be marveled . Like I said before, if she was black and a dark skinned women who said she felt white, she would of been ridiculed and laughed at and dragged back and forth. I really would pay good some money for someone to pull on that weave and let the pain seep some sense into her ; However I know better then to sink to that level. She is an example of pure crusty dutty white entitlement is and she knows it. She just has one of the those faces you want..nah I’m better then this. Please Clutch stop publicizing this mess it disrespects us black women who actually love flexin our beautiful melanin. She’s just mad she can’t be us and she will never be one of no matter how much weave she puts on her had and how much fake tan she wallows in. I wouldn’t be surprised if black men were already lining up to give her another baby already. I love my black people but sometimes you make me loose faith.. you really do.
