A star college athlete and a classmate from Alabama’s Troy University have been suspended after authorities discovered a cellphone video that allegedly shows them sexually assaulting a woman at a beach while a large crowd of spring-breaker watched.

Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen described the graphic video as the “most disgusting, sickening thing” he had ever seen. He says the footage shows several men surrounding an incapacitated woman on a beach chair. In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s department stated:

The Bay County Sheriff’s office obtained a video from the Troy Police Department on April 2, 2015. The Troy Police Department found the video during the course of an investigation into a shooting incident in their jurisdiction. The video appeared to be of a gang rape that occurred on Panama City Beach during Spring Break.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was able to identify the victim in the video. After speaking with witnesses to the incident, it was established the incident took place between March 10, 2015, to March 12, 2015, on the sandy beaches of Panama City Beach behind Spinnaker on Thomas Drive.

The victim told authorities that she thought she had been drugged at the time, and didn’t remember the incident well enough to report it.

Delonte Martistee, 22, of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Ryan Calhoun, 23, of Mobile, Alabama, were charged with sexual battery.

Troy University released a statement, which reads:

The students have been placed on temporary suspension from school per the University’s Standards of Conduct and disciplinary procedures. Martistee, a member of the track and field team, has also been removed from the team.

Additional arrests are expected.

Who recorded the rape????? Lock them up too, please. WTF is wrong with people?! Are we humans, or are we animals?

Even animals behave better than this. They try help their own if attacked but some people are without a conscience.

I mean, could you even fathom recording the worst moment in someone’s life? Even your worst enemy?

      I agree. Utterly disgusting.

What makes some males believe they have a right to a woman’s body!? If guilty, they need to be thrown under the jail.

If guilty..? There’s video evidence. They’re already guilty.

isn’t it illegal to leave the scene of an accident w/o reporting it? why doesn’t that apply to the creeps who stand around watching women be assaulted like it’s their own personal peep show?

Good point. Laws for aiding and abedding are different between states, hoping to hear Florida’s as this story unfolds. This generation’s parents should not pay for spring break, it’s not safe. If they only knew there are consensual orgies, nudity and all kinds of immoral behavior.

If the video stands, that will probably be the last time they touch a woman outside of a prison guard with stick or a nurse with a needle. Taping the incident is shameful, but at least it taping is irrefutable evidence for everyone except the police.

This behavior of witnessing serious crimes that hurt others, is not uncommon in many cultures and is attributed to Pluralistic Ignorance. I also attribute the behavior to fear of those engaged in the assault, being viewed as a “snitch”, and obviously lack of personal responsibility.

“…not uncommon in many cultures.” What the hell does that mean? Pluralistic Ignorance? Are you for real? Oh, you want to skollage so now you think you know something about pluralism to relate it to this carnage. Girl Bye!

Want to know what it means? Simple enough– look it up troll.

I wonder if YOU know what it means. Name calling makes you feel BIG?

Judging someone YOU don’t know make YOU feel important? You get back what you give, I simply expressed my opinion like everyone else does and others had no issue with it, but YOU DID (that’s what trolls do) and that’s your problem not mine. Bye.

The person filming and those gathering around to watch need some prosecution along with these two jokers.

Any form of rape and sexual assault must be condemned. I echo everyone’s sentiments. The people who recorded the rape (and did nothing about it) are reprehensible too not just the sick people who raped the innocent woman. There can be no justice in society without the elimination of any form of oppression. Rape, misogyny, and abuse has no place in society. All women have the right to her human autonomy. We all hope that anyone involved in these criminal actions should be arrested, tried in the court of law, convicted, and sent to prison. Justice is the goal.

That’s their lives over. The poor woman! Spring break/breakers are crazy. The last incident on the news involved a shooting in Florida. Was she drunk or on drugs? Good Lord!

    • April 13, 2015 - Reply

Maybe she was drunk or high, but these young men had no right to help themselves to her body.

      • April 14, 2015 - Reply

True, Anthony; but one has to wonder about the common theme in these campus/frat parties: poor girl is unconscious through drink or drugs, young men just see a body, nothing more, and violate her.

Were there no other young women there to stop this or raise an alarm? Unfortunately, it seems the onus is on women to avoid such situations and protect ourselves. There is a guy receiving backlash on social media for a shirt that says, “eat, pray, r%&e”. He wore it to Coachella. What does that tell you?

        • April 14, 2015 - Reply

You raise a good point. Often people ask why didn’t other men call out or confront the rapists, but these rapes happen in front of women too (at least some of the time.) Anyone who sees this sort of thing needs to confront the criminals violating the victim.

I know that young white people can be just as stupid and violent, but seems that going back to the days of Freaknik, young black folks have been increasingly ignorant in public. Incidents at Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, and now Panama City, show a really messed up pattern of behavior. As I said before, white kids can be just as stupid, but we used to u deist and that we cannot get away with the same dumb crap as white kids. A lot of young folks have lost all common sense.

    • April 13, 2015 - Reply

This is not just a stupid mistake but a crime. This is not just ignorance but immorality…

      • April 13, 2015 - Reply

I am not talking just about rape, but more commonly, lesser lewd behavior like indecent exposure, public sex, excessively loud music, public intoxication, etc.

    • April 13, 2015 - Reply

Yes a lot of younger people nowadays grew up with access to Internet porn so watching a woman being violated is entertainment for many of them. One of the things we used to have going for us as Black people was common sense and self respect when it came to this stuff, now we are totally integrated-lol

Really wish rapists would be put to death along with child molesters. Even if my own father, brother or son were to be a rapist, I would want them to die if the victim wished it (and the crime was proven of course).

I prefer locked up and mercilessly tortured for a severe length of time but I understand your sentiment. Predators do NOT belong in Society and they should be taken out at will. That goes for Police, Wall Street, and anyone else who violates humanity.

These scumbags need the book thrown at them. I wonder why all the Black women seen in the video laughing and drinking didn’t see it fit to stop. Perhaps they thought its was OK to rape a white woman on the beach because she shouldn’t have gotten so drunk. There is a SERIOUS rape culture in Black America that no one wants to talk about.
