Newark Mayor Cory Booker Wins Democratic Senate Primary

Last night, Newark’s Mayor Cory Booker was victorious in New Jersey’s Democratic Senate Primary. Booker defeated U.S. Reps. Rush Holt and Frank Pallone, and state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver.

Booker will face Republican Steve Lonegan, former mayor of Bogota, N.J., in a special election Oct. 16.

Booker had several heavy hitters backing him when it came to fundraising. Oprah Winfrey and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, helped him bring in more than $8.6 million.  Booker, 44, argued that his high profile would allow him to be more effective in Washington. “I find ways to break through the noise of the country and more effectively advocate and get things done,” he told the Asbury Park Press last month.

So does this mean no more running into burning homes and saving little old ladies?

Congrats to Cory Booker!
