New Orleans’ First Shooting Victim Of the Year Was Recent HBCU Grad

Myeisha McDaniels’ family is still in disbelief. The promising 22-year-old had recently graduated from Dillard University, only to have her life come to a tragic end shortly after 2016 began. Now, McDaniels’ family is left to wonder why someone took her life.

“I’m begging y’all to come forward, please lord Jesus this has got to stop, please Jesus y’all have got to stop,” McDaniels’ mother, Shirleen Jefferson told reporters.

According to her family, McDaniels was a straight-A student who had dreams of putting her biology degree to use and becoming a brain surgeon.

“This is a good person who dedicated her life to school, to saving lives, not for someone to take her life,” McDaniels’ sister, Tyeshia, said.

“I come from a good foundation, we used to be the four musketeers. Now we’re the three musketeers and I don’t have my sister so whoever did this, look what you done tore up,” Tyeshia added.

McDaniels died of a gunshot wound on Saturday. She was scheduled to begin a new job in the health field on Tuesday, and was researching medical schools. – Jackson, MS

New Orleans Police and McDaniels’ family are asking for anyone with information about her death to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

I feel sadness. She was a very intelligent Sister who was going to be a great brain surgeon. She was going to help others and be an inspiration for future generations. Yet, she was murdered by a coward. The murderer hurt a black family and the murderer should be captured and sent to prison. Myeisha McDaniels’ family always expressed a great love for Myeisha McDaniels. This is their child. This story is why gun violence must be addressed fully or comprehensively in American society. No family should experience their relative being murdered. I send prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Sister Myeisha McDaniels.

    RIP Myeisha McDaniels

Her mom and sister broke my heart. Such a waste of life and a tragedy, especially after the couple who die where the girlfriend was pregnant. I am just sick and tired of the crime in this city. May Myeisha McDaniels rest in peace, her light was dimmed too soon.

I am tired of reading about our young people losing their lives over pure,
senseless violence. Justice needs to be swift and harsh!
My condolences to the the McDaniels.

This is the first I heard of this story – here on a blog and not an official news site. Poor woman had her entire life ahead of her. She deserves justice but unfortunately she’s the wrong color and comes from NOLA so mainstream media will ignore her case.
