Annmarie Richards has 32 kids and she plans on having more. You see, Richards isn’t your average mother but a woman with a heart of gold who has made it her life’s mission to help homeless kids in Jamaica. Richards boasts that the kids she has taken under her wings have gone on to graduate high school and find meaningful work.
“We sent them to school, we bathed them, we washed them, and we took them in. We took care of them,” Richards says. “How we do it is we take you on unconditionally, we don’t need to know where you’re from, we just know that the love in our heart … is a reason to help another child.”
Richards’ story caught the eye of Joel Robbins, Matthew Butler and Jenny Ljung, who run a company called GoBokaPlay. GoBoka is a YouTube channel that partners with companies that promise to donate funds to the subjects of GoBoka’s videos.
The company filmed Richards’ story in hopes of raising money for her via YouTube.
“A lot of young people or college kids or anyone, really, want to do humanitarian things, but they don’t have the money to help out,” Robbins explained to HuffPost. “With GoBoka, instead of donating a dollar, all they have to do is play, like or share a video.”
If Richards’ video reaches 50,000 views by April 10th, the Make Life Better Foundation, Richards’ employer, Unicity’s, charity foundation, will donate a computer lab to Richards’ kids.

I almost cried watching this video. I was raised in Jamaica, and I knew so many women like the one featured in this video. That can-do spirit, that ‘no one-is-a-lost-cause’ spirit, runs deep in the Jamaican consciousness. It’s how a Caribbean island turned out a national bobsled team, or how our university chess players are some of the best in the world. When people think of Jamaica, all they think is weed, dancehall and Bob Marley, but when you peel that back, what you find is an astoundingly beautiful culture.
