Dr. Dre On Allegations He Beat Women: ‘I Made Some F*cking Horrible Mistakes In My Life’

As Universal Pictures gears up for the release of the highly-anticipated NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, some critics have accused the film of glossing over the group’s rampant misogyny. While NWA certainly changed the rap game, their treatment of women left much to be desired. One major incident that didn’t make it into the film? Dr. Dre’s vicious assault on journalist Dee Barnes.

Last year, hip hop blogger Byron Crawford listed three women Dr. Dre assaulted over the years in the damning piece, “Beatings By Dre.” Among Dre’s victims were his ex-wife Michel’le, who admitted the legendary producer beat her so badly she had to have plastic surgery.

Dre has stayed mum over the years about the allegations, save for a 1991 Rolling Stone interview in which he bragged about beating up Barnes.

“People talk all this shit, but you know, somebody fucks with me, I’m gonna fuck with them,” Dre said back them. “I just did it, you know. Ain’t nothing you can do now by talking about it. Besides, it ain’t no big thing—I just threw her through a door.”

Now it looks like the mogul is breaking his silence. In a new cover story for Rolling Stone, Dr. Dre admits he made a lot of mistakes when he was younger, including beating up on women.

“I made some fucking horrible mistakes in my life,” Dre explains. “I was young, fucking stupid. I would say all the allegations aren’t true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really fucked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there’s no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again.”

For his wife’s sake–and the women around him–I hope he’s right.

Even if he regrets it I still doubt he has a high regard for women.

I would be more open to believing him if he didn’t have a movie and album he was promoting.

Violence against any women is evil. It may not be popular in some quarters to mention this, but truth is that the music and the actions of the members of NWA are part of misogyny and other counterrevolutionary evils.

If he has a daughter i hope she is spared what her father did to women. i hope his sons don’t beat women if he has them.

I wonder if he keeps his fists away from his white woman unlike the black women he mistreated in the past

Honestly, I think this might be the case of a little too late. I mean is he all of a sudden apologetic because people didn’t forget and decide not to support him? And how exactly DID he pay? For his sake, I hope he means it and is living by his words and use actions such as donating his time, money and resources to domestic violence/abuse victims in his city. But either way he doesn’t get an applause from me.

i bet he don’t lay a hand on his non-black wife that he’s married to now. But he didn’t have a problem beating on his prior black wife or other women he dated. BM that date out when they get rich put their non-black wives on pedestals, which is so foolish, she’s no better than any other woman.

I wish i thought i’d support his movie or music. Never was a big fan of him or his style of music anyway.

He keeps saying mistake, but it almost sounds as if he is referring more to being caught and being called out, more so than being abusive.
