Atlanta Teen Receives His New Heart Transplant

Doctors say Anthony Stokes will not receive heart transplant

Anthony Stokes received a new heart Tuesday evening. ¬†Just over 2 weeks ago, his family complained how he was unfairly rejected because of past issues with taking his medication, missing doctor’s appointments and bad behavior at school.

“I know he will comply with all the rules,” a crying Hamilton told ABC News last week, before she learned that doctors had reversed their decision and would put Anthony on the transplant list. “He will take his medicine because he knows that is how he has to live.”

“He was just fighting,” Hamilton said. “Trying to take up, just trying to take up for his brother because somebody was bullying his brother.”

According to his family, he had less than six months to live without a transplant. Once the story hit the internet and news, the hospital reversed their decision added him to its waiting list.

Stokes received a heart transplant Tuesday, a family spokesman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was in the intensive care unit of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Wednesday, the hospital said.

Citing patient privacy, the hospital would not release further details of the case but said it has performed 10 heart transplants so far this year, three in the past week.

Stokes should consider himself lucky, some people are on donor waiting lists for months and years at a time.

He really should consider himself lucky. I really hopes he comply and follow all of the doctor’s order. He and his family should be very grateful. I do believe his family created outrage over false facts and it is hard to ignore that he was place at the top of the list over people who probably complied from the beginning. It is what it is and I hope he does right with his new heart.

Good for him to get the transplant. Now he needs some ‘act right’ and get himself together.

Somehow I feel like he’s gonna keep getting into trouble, transplant be damned…*shrug*

I really hope this young man makes the most of this opportunity and shows the people that rejected him in the first place how wrong they were.

The people who rejected him are a team of transplat doctors and administrators!
A heart transplant is a serious procedure. One must follow transplant procedure or they really do not deserve to have the heart. This kid was lucky.
Thousands are waiting everyday for a heart. This family made a mockery out of this procedure, and he/they do not get a pass simply because they are black!
Hope he appreciates his secong chance at life.
