Apparently Internet Trolls Prefer Women

image20151231-9530-1l4ly8mOk so you’re not exactly shocked and dismayed – especially if you’re a woman. But it’s an unfortunate discovery nonetheless.

The BBC’s Valeria Perasso reported this past Wednesday that the United Nations has issued a “worldwide wake-up call” in response to cyber violence against women just in time for its annual International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

As the UN defines it, online abuse against women takes numerous forms, from threats to harassment to revenge porn. The UN Women’s Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka tells the BBC: “Online violence has subverted the original positive promise of the Internet’s freedoms and in too many circumstances has made it a chilling space that permits anonymous cruelty and facilitates harmful acts towards women and girls.” Why does it happen, why does it persist? Because it can. Internet trolls rest assured there will likely be zero consequences for their behavior.

Just ask any popular beauty guru and she’ll tell you – this YouTuber life ain’t no crystal stair – especially when you start making your way through the comments which usually range from “Beautiful! Continue slaying us!” to “You should never leave the house without makeup girl. That face is horrific. Ha!”

Is it safe to say we’re in agreement with the UN’s findings? What, if anything can be done to stop internet trolls in their sad little tracks and how do you handle Negative Nancies on the ‘net?

First, Clutch has done a great job in combating Internet trolls. Internet trolling is problem in the Internet. Racist trolls are very vile and disrespectful. Women especially have been the victims of slander and slurs including other forms of disrespect from those trolls. To combat the trolls, folks can contact moderators, not communicate to them, etc. Yet, if a troll slanders your relative or someone you care about, my advice is to verbally handle your business and really refute them (and then try to get a moderator to delete their comments). The way that I handle trolls is that I either ignore them or I refute them on political matters, etc. Afterwards, I keep it moving. Life is very short, so those trolls will experience their Karma without question. Like always, women should have total equality and liberation.

I respect your view. Other sites allow trolls to run wide.

Internet is definitely seen as free reign, when it actually isnt. Like anything it take repercussions to get trolls back to reality.

The internet is definitely a place where you’ll find ridiculous and disgusting comments on the most harmless articles or videos. I remember seeing white trolls on black hair videos on youtube. Like, what kind of a no-life having, living-in-your-mother’s-basement, 40-year-old virgin trolls videos that have absolutely nothing to do with them?
