Kelly Osbourne Gets Dragged For Racist Comment: “If You Kick Every Latino Out Of This Country, Then Who Is Going To Clean Your Toilet, Donald Trump?”

KellyOsbourne2

Kelly Osbourne is the latest white media personality to put her foot in her mouth and face instant backlash as a result.

During a segment on today’s episode of The View, guest host Kelly Osbourne joined in on a discussion about Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s insensitive and often racist views on immigration. During their discussion, Kelly attempted to point out just how little sense it makes for Donald Trump to look down on the Latino community given that some of the people he has working for him and doing things that he thinks he’s too good to do himself are likely Latino, but the words she used to express her thoughts were clearly not well planned out. While trying to get her point across, she said: “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?”

Take a look at her full comment and the immediate reaction of fellow co-host Rosie Perez (who is Puerto Rican) immediately after.

In attempting to accurately portray Donald Trump as being racist, it looks like Kelly may have ended up broadcasting her own racist views by implying that the majority of the people who clean toilets in L.A. are Latino. She attempted to clarify her comments immediately after she made the statement and was promptly checked by Rosie Perez, but the damage had already been done.

In an even more surprising turn of events, Rosie later took to her Twitter account to publicly apologize to Kelly for “taking her point wrong” just as the clip of Kelly’s comments began to go viral on Twitter.

Regardless of whether or not Kelly “intended” to sound racist, the fact that she automatically thinks to relate toilet cleaning jobs specifically to those in the Latino community speaks volumes. What are your thoughts on Kelly’s comments, Clutchettes?

    She said those comments and she wanted to criticize Donald Trump, but her words were said in an inappropriate fashion. There can be many ways to expose Donald Trump’s extremism without using that terminology since not every Latino cleans toilets and not every immigrant has the exact same job. So, her comments were poorly said without question. She should not have said what she has said. We have to use chess not checkers. The reactionary/fascist movement is real and many of these reactionary fascists not only want a theocratic society (since they believe that forcing people to live their life will make everybody better when human beings have the freedom to live out of their own lives). Some of them just hate anybody even slightly to the left of Reagan (who was an extremist, he was involved in the harm done to the old school BPP, etc.). Some of them (or reactionaries) don’t even believe in a $9 national minimum wage. So, I have no respect for austerity and poor-scapegoating. So, we need real, comprehensive solutions to solve these problems that deal with immigration, poverty, etc. Once you are in the public eye like that, you have to be cognizant of what you say (especially if you’re on a morning, nationally watched talk show).

      Close the boarder is the solution and have a citizenship cap like everyone else. Notice Canada dosen’t have these problems..

        There should be stronger border security, a higher national minimum wage, a fairer trade deal (which isn’t about the TPP), a cleaner environment, investments in building up America (which will take money being spent), the protection of our voting rights, and other solutions. Solutions will have to be diverse in essence.

            Some of the worst race baiters in the world are those who believe in post racial propaganda (and refuse to expose structural racism in society). Many liberals are racists not all. We don’t need fear. We need justice. We need the system of white supremacy to end. Also, we have every right to promote solutions.

    It’s kind of silly, because this is an inappropriate way of saying the same message that man people have been saying for years. A major sticking point in the immigration debate is that illegal immigrants do the work that no one else wants to do. I’ve always thought that was a little insulting, because it’s basically saying that we need to allow illegal immigrants to come in and do all the garbage work. That’s dangerous, because if a business is employing illegal immigrants, you can bet they don’t care about meeting the minimum standards for decent employment. So really, I think the broader point is racist. It’s almost like saying, “Well, who is going to clean up the breadcrumbs under our table?”

      Not only is it insulting but it’s also wrong. When they say that immigrants take jobs that Americans don’t want to do what they mean to say is that immigrants take jobs that Americans won’t do at that wage. We always hear about the market but when it comes to wages somehow the laws of supply and demand mean nothing. They want to be able to offer jobs at below subsistence wages then wonder why people won’t take them.

      With undocumented immigrants they have a population they can exploit and that’s what they’re interested in. They use the lie of jobs Americans won’t take to make excuses for their desire to import people with no rights who they can bully into working for less.

        @Reina Benoir

        Exactly! Americans didn’t just decide to stop doing those jobs. They were forced out when they couldn’t compete with the wages and treatment the immigrants are willing to accept.

        @Reina Benoir

        Exactly! It’s basically putting lipstick on the “pig” that is exploitation. Kelly Osborne just did a poorer job of putting verbal makeup on that pig, and now she’s getting unfairly dragged on it.

      @LogicalLeopard

      Agreed. Another thing I want to add is that I never believed that lie about illegals doing jobs Americans don’t want do because the jobs they are infiltrating were done by Blacks at one time, e.g. housekeeping, car washing, babysitting, etc. They’ve moved everyone out of the running because they will work for lower wages.

      Sidenote: My friend has a Mexican boyfriend who became a U.S. citizen LEGALLY. He has a wonderful job as an accountant. He came to the U.S. educated, so there are those who come prepared.

        It sounds like it’s really more like code language for “doing jobs at poor wages with poor conditions that we couldn’t get away with having an American do, who might turn us into the government or Better Business Bureau.” There are many Mexicans that come to this country with an education and other skills, and of course a strong work ethic. We cant lose sight of that in this immigration debate, and we can’t use the same tired justifications that exploit Mexicans.

      • August 5, 2015 - Reply

        @Ann Gomez

        Thats true. But there are other jobs out there which a lot of people don’t want to do, like picking tomatoes and things. But really, how arrogant is it to say, “Well, if you tighten immigration, who will pick your tomatoes?” Someone is going to do it, and you might have to pay them more and give them better benefits. But hey, isn’t that a good thing? It might cost more to buy tomatoes, but you can’t list people’s suffering as less important as cheap tomatoes.

          As far as I’m concerned they have the capability to build robots that can do that. Hello Japan has robots serving their fast-food.

            @Ann Gomez

            Yeah, but a business is more likely to employ humans than buy a tomato picking robot at this stage in the game, unless it was proven to be effective, economic, and precise. But the whole point is, the argument that Mexicans are needed for such labor is basically saying that you’re okay with mistreating immigrants. Its one thing when you depend on the 12 year old neighbor kid to cut your grass, because he’ll do it for 10 bucks instead of the market rate. But in my opinion, it gets shady when you’re paying a full-grown immigrant a pitiful wage, who may have family depending on him in Mexico.

    that’s what happens when folks talk in memes instead of forming complete thoughts. folks need to learn when to use all those english lessons they learned in school to get their point across in serious conversation. if you have to clarify your statement in order for folks to understand your point, you should work on improving your speech.

    i think she was expecting a rimshot/punchline moment by repeating something she’s heard other folks say not realizing that folks say it with less than the best intentions. she could’ve taken a beat to say that trump probably employs a lot of low wage immigrant workers considering those tend to be the easiest jobs for any immigrant to get when they first get to this country & try to establish themselves, so getting rid of immigration would mean putting his money where his mouth is & getting rid of some of his workstaff. but to boil that whole point & all its nuances down to “who’s cleaning your toilet” is a slap in the face to the workers, not trump… a man who can afford to hire & fire people at the drop of a dime.

    Okay here’s how it works. Those toilet cleaning jobs are givin to illegals for 1 or 2 reasons. First one being that the business owners use them to pay them little or no wages by using their illegal status against them. 2 illegals come here very poor and have no degrees or the necessary skills to get well paying job. Also with what money they do make they just send it back home which causes less money to flow into our economy. Our economy would be better without illegals

      @Mr. S

      You’re right, Mr. S. They are highly exploited. It used to be Blacks cleaning toilets and cleaning their houses and raising their children. Now these companies employee illegals.

        Blacks chose to go on welfare decades ago, rather than work jobs they believed are beneath them. Hispanics are usually proud workers, who work extremely hard.
