The Weekend Flies, When You’re Having Fun

time-flies-clock

This past weekend was definitely one of the best I’ve had in a while. Nothing beats spending time with good friends, drinks & laughs. Typically, when I’m in my introverted moods, I’d rather not be around a lot of people, so I had to mentally prepare myself to be social and that was definitely the case on Friday. I didn’t even make it into work because if I did, I’m sure after dealing with them there, I wouldn’t have wanted to hang out that night.

Friday night was somewhat a few weeks in the making, but came down to the last minute, and who could give my friends & I the best price on bottle service & table reservations. After calling around for almost a week, finally someone gave me a good price. No minimum alcohol requirement for a table sounds good to me and no other venue could beat what Ozio offered. Ozio is the only establishment in DC that still allows smoking, because it’s a cigar lounge. So if you’re a smoker, and especially a cigar connoisseur, who loves music & dancing, it’s definitely the place you’d want to be.

My friends & I definitely had a good time, even though most of them were meeting each other for the first time, everyone seemed to genuinely get along pretty well. There wasn’t a moment when someone wasn’t practically in tears from laughter, either at each other or the atrocities that our eyes were witnessing. And when I say atrocities, I’m speaking of the illegal use of spandex, bad weaves & Steve Harvey Pimp Suits. Our night at Ozio didn’t end until about 2:30 a.m and considering we got there around 9, it was quite a long night.

I didn’t have too much time to recuperate in the morning, because I promised to help a friend move, so fiddling with that took up most of my Saturday afternoon, by the time the day ended, I was physically & mentally drained! The last thing I remembered Saturday night was receiving a text from HWSRN (he who shall remain nameless) and him asking me if I was out anywhere, and after that I fell asleep with the phone in my hand.

Thirteen hours of sleep later, I woke up hungry. I mean starving. I texted HWSRN to see if he wanted to meet for brunch, but got the runaround from him, but received a call from another friend who wanted me to attend the Green Apple Festival with her on the Washington Mall. So basically we bartered. I told her if she comes to brunch, I would go to the festival. It was a done deal.

Although I truly wanted to have brunch at Creme, it definitely wasn’t in the cards for us on Sunday. After waiting almost an hour & 15 minutes, hunger & a lack of patience over took us. Clearly the waitress was a little more cordial to the melanin lacking customers, despite her own abundance of it. We actually saw a group of people who came in after our own party of 6, being seated before us, and before my friend’s blood pressure could rise, she called Marvin’s to see how long their wait was. Within 5 minutes (2 which included the walk from one restaurant to another), we were seated at Marvin’s.  If you’re in the DC area and you haven’t been to Marvin’s you’re missing out on some of the best Belgium & Soul Food cuisine ever! In my opinion, Marvin’s has some of the best cheese grits I have ever tasted!  Everyone at the table had the typical soul food brunch fanfare. Chicken & waffles, cheese grits, shrimp & grits (I had to stop myself from putting my fork in my friend’s plate) and French toast. This was another occasion where the majority of us were meeting for the first time, and it’s always good to be in great company with great food.

Eventually  a couple of us decided to make our way to the Green Apple Festival aka Earth Day on the Washington Mall. By this time, the ‘itis was setting in, so the walking would definitely do us some good. We did feel a bit embarrassed pulling up to the festival in a premium gas guzzling SUV, but we played it off pretty well. LOL. Now, I’m not sure if noise pollution is considered to be ‘green’, but the one annoyance was that the music was extremely loud, to the point that you couldn’t hear the exhibitors speak at the booths. After about an hour, we decided to call it a day. We headed back to my friend’s house so I could pick up my own gas guzzling SUV, so I could head home.

So now it’s Monday, well, technically there’s only about 39 minutes left to this day. I got absolutely NADA accomplished. I didn’t even head into work, because of the nasty weather. Who knows if I’ll drag myself in on Tuesday. I guess it all depends on if the April showers, decide to end. Personally, I’m over the rain. I could careless about April showers bringing May flowers, because I’m an allergy sufferer!

So that was my weekend, how was yours? Also, on twitter, I had a good ‘random facts’ game going on Sunday. So in addition to sharing how your weekend went, how about sharing a random fact as well?

I’ve stopped by quite a few times, but have never commented! I love your site, esp. the header area with the black facts & videos to go along with it!

Family time is always a good thing!
About your ground beef thing, I don’t like touching it either, I always make sure to wear gloves just so I won’t have to feel it on my skin.

It’s great to get out, have fun and let go of the stress that the daily gig can bring. I need to do it more.

I am glad that you were able to get out and enjoy your weekend. You deserve it! Well I must say that my weekend was quite the opposite. I was EXTREMELY bored this weekend. It rained and I caught the blues. LOL. But I survived!

Sounds like a great weekend! I’m generally a notorious isolator and that’s why I make it my business to meet with my core group of friends every Friday. And like your experience, every Friday leaves my face hurting from all the laughter.
On another note, the promise of spring has awaken my more erotic side and I spent the rest of the weekend laying down the foundation for a torrid, totally inappropriate, totally wrong on multiple levels, summer fling that will surely end in a broken heart (one way or another).
    LOL
    and life IS good! LOL

i remember seeing my mother make meatloaf as a kid, and I would get so disgusted by seeing her squish the meat & play with it..i think that’s what caused my issue.
