Maybe Turning 33 Isn’t So Bad

Thirty-three years ago, on August 4th, yours truly came into the world kicking and screaming. Thirty-three years later, I’m still kicking and screaming.

I think there’s a pattern here.

At least I’m consistent.

This year I celebrated my 33rd birthday in St. Thomas, USVI and it was definitely the best birthday I’ve had as of yet. The island of St. Thomas is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been thus far, it also helped that the company I had there was great as well. The trip was definitely about as spur of the moment as you could have gotten and I’m glad I followed my gut instinct and went. I was able to catch up with an old friend from high school and attend one of the most beautiful weddings ever.

What  amazed me was how people we came across who were from the states, that once after they visited St. Thomas, they came back home, quit their jobs and moved to the island. Everyone from the computer engineer from Atlanta, to the accountant from Chicago, who are now working as waiters & bartenders, couldn’t stop talking about how great their time has been living in St. Thomas. It definitely put a few ideas in my head.

My four days were spent in the sun, drinking and laying out at the pool and beach.  I think I’ve gotten about 4 shades browner, in the process, the tan lines are something serious and the contrast is amazing. The time I spent there definitely felt as if it flew by way to fast. Next thing I realized, we were at the airport in St. Thomas, Wednesday afternoon, waiting for our flight, which was about 5 hours delayed. Thursday afternoon, when I stepped off of the plane at Thurgood Marshall Airport, reality struck, and my whole demeanor changed, within seconds.  The sun was gone, and it was replaced by clouds. The laid back atmosphere, that is St. Thomas,  was replaced by the hustle and bustle of the DMV area.

So now I’m back to  the realities of my world:

  • I’m quite tired of the DMV area, but I can’t see myself moving anytime soon.
  • I’m contemplating leaving my job, due to a change in management & departments.
  • I need to get rid of the extra pounds I’ve put on these past couple of months (damn my favorite skinny jeans are fitting a little bit too tight)
  • I owe several friends in the NYC/NJ/CT area a visit, hopefully it’ll happen by the end of the month.
  • My hair is growing out of control, so I think it’s time to loc it down.

I guess, looking at that list, things could actually be worst, so let me stop complaining and rambling. I want to thank everyone on Twitter, Facebook and my friends, who sent “Happy Birthday” messages/emails/tweets/etc..etc.! I definitely appreciated it!

The lawsuit is still dragging on…..? Sheez. You need to write a book.

A co-worker of mine is planning to quit at the end of the year and move to the Florida Keys.

Sounded ridiculous when she first said it, but now… I'm all about it. Sometimes it's the ridiculous that gets us places.

    Meanwhile, HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY!

Cool! We share the same birthday! Happy Belated! Oh your trip to St. Thomas sounds wonderful! Sometimes I think about leaving all this American life behind. I mean I used to bartend…

I am digging this post because I need a job, location, weight, hair, etc. change in a major way. My goal is to apply to business schools abroad (Paris and London) for entry next Fall. After that I may set up residence in Hawaii giving tours or something. I just don't want to return to the hustle and bustle of an unfulfilling life in a urbane locale.

Oh Hawaii is definitely a beautiful place. I have a friend who moved back to the MD area after living in Hawaii for a few years and regrets moving back here.

I think I told you Happy Birthday on Twitter, but if not, Happy Belated Birthday!! Confession: You look better at 33 than I do currently at 23, but I'm working on it. Maybe you can be my model for what I wanna be after this whole working out thing! 🙂 Sounds like St. Thomas is the new… Atlanta or something. I'm gonna have to migrate there for a few days in the winter perhaps. Glad to know you had a great time!
