Nelson Mandela’s Grandson Arrested for Alleged Rape

Nelson Mandela’s grandson, 24-year-old Mbuso Mandela, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, according to South African police.

Mbuso is currently in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday for a bail hearing. According South Africa’s Star newspaper , the rape allegedly took place on Aug. 7, and was reported to the police a week later.

Police said the rape occurred while the girl was dining at a popular Johannesburg restaurant.

She was having dinner with some friends when she excused herself to go to the bathroom, her family’s spokesman told the Daily Sun. Mandela allegedly attacked her inside.

“He grabbed her and raped her inside one of the toilets,” the spokesman said.

According to the victim’s family, the Mandela family has tried to interfere with the investigation.

The family said Winnie Madikizela-Mandela sent her bodyguard — disguised as a cop — to the victim’s home, the spokesman said. The undercover bodyguard allegedly told the girl’s family that police would not arrest the suspected rapist.

“When the father asked to see his badge, he didn’t have one. It turned out he had been sent by Winnie,” the family spokesman said.

    If the accusations are true, unconscionable covering up for what this boy did. Shame on Winnie! Nelson would probably be rolling over in his grave.

    Rape is totally evil. If he is guilty, then must be punished and placed into prison. There is a serious problem of females being sexually assaulted worldwide.

    Very disappointing news.

    This is horrifying and I hope that if he’s found guilty, he’s made to pay for his actions. I also hope the young survivor can truly heal and move forward with her life.

    As an aside, I wonder how future generations will ultimately view Winnie. She’s a powerful and ruthless figure who’s been accused of being involved in some real atrocities over the years. Will her heroism eventually be overshadowed by her brutality? Only time will tell.

    From what I have read about Winnie she can be ruthless. That movie about Mandela made her look like a terror

      @Mary Burrell

      I saw the new movie about Mandela called “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.” It was a long, great movie. It showed a very personal account about the events of South Africa.
