Soweto born Trevor Noah has been tapped as the replacement for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. In February, after 16 years of being on the air, Stewart announced that he was retiring. Since then, rumors circulated on who would be replacing Stewart. Some cheered for Jessica Williams, but with this announcement, and the fact that Noah has only appeared on 3 episodes, it’s an interesting pick.
“I never thought I’d be more afraid of police in America than in South Africa,” he said with a smile. “It kind of makes me a little nostalgic for the old days, back home.”
In an interview with The New York Times, Noah expressed excitement about his new role.
“You don’t believe it for the first few hours,” Noah stated. “You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
Noah, who is the son of a Black Xhosa mother and a white Swiss father, knows that he has a huge seat to fill and that people won’t adjust easily.
“We live in a world where some people still say Beyoncé can’t sing,” he said. “Clearly I’m not immune to that.”

Wow! Didn’t see this coming. Trevor Noah is very smart, funny, doesn’t rely on stereotypes like a LOT of Black comics and does not sugarcoat the topic of race. This is a very good choice, I wonder if Jon had any input re: this decision.

I absolutely LOVE Trevor Noah. He, to me, is a phenom. He’s intelligent, funny, and can tell the truth about issues such as racism, and have people laugh.

I’m glad you wrote this. My first reaction was to question whether he was gonna be a stand-up dude or a sell out. Glad to hear that it’s the latter.

Love, he’s definitely a stand up dude. He’s a hoot! He tells it like it is, and does it in such a great way.

He’s talking about how his dad isn’t very proud of him because he’s a stand-up comedian. I bet he’s excited about this job because he can prove that he officially has a “real job”.

He’s funny and adorable. Apparently he did a similar show on South African television (?) I am interested in how he speaks on American politics and social issues.
