Raven Symoné Defends Univision Host Who Compared Michelle Obama to an Ape: ‘Some People Just Look Like Animals’

Screen Shot 2015-03-17 at 11.52.57 AM

Remember last week when Rodner Figueroa was fired from Univision after comparing Michelle Obama to an ape from Planet of the Apes?

It’ll probably go down as the one moment in his career he wished never happened.

Surprisingly, he has a supporter in the form of Raven ‘New Black’ Symoné.

This woman had the nerve to defend Rodner and state that maybe he isn’t racist, during a recent co-hosting stint on The View.

Watch the video to see Rosie Perez school the panel on how racist her fellow Latinos can be:

Once Perez was done preaching and teaching, Symoné thought she’d add her  .01 cent.

“But was he saying it racist like? Because he said he voted for her later. And I don’t think he was saying it racist,” Symoné stated.

Girl, bye.

And then she continued to embarrass herself.

“Not Michelle Obama. Michelle, don’t fire me from this right now, but some people do look like animals,” Symoné joked.

“So can I be mad if someone called me Toucan Sam?” Symoné asked.

Girl, bye…again.

Every time a “New Black” opens their mouths and talks about racism, not only does an angel loses its wing, Rosa Parks  and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. roll over in their graves.

Ugh, raven just shut the helle up if you have nothing to add to the subject. What happen to “no comment ” no one says that anymore.

Being compared to almost any animal would be considered an insult. There is no negative racial history in this country regarding toucans, so that point is completely and utterly worthless. Raven knows what the Univision host meant, and by playing dumb Raven has ensured that she will not be invited to any White House functions in the near future. I see why Lee Daniels hired her. She appears to have similar views to Lee’s on race.

This is one of the dangers of growing up in the entertainment business and not interacting with real life on a daily basis. It seems as if Will Smith’s kids on currently on a similar path. They are spouting out things that they never experienced. At the end of the day, First Lady Obama and President Obama both were previously normal, hard working people who had to come up the rough side of the mountain. When you grow up in Hollywood with a cushy, high paying job where you don’t have to deal with high school bullies and don’t have to deal with corporate America’s bullies, it apparently damages one’s intelligence.

If the Univision host had something something that was considered homophobic, then Raven probably would have used her juice in the entertainment business to stall his career.

Here is another example of someone who appears to identify as LGBT first, and African American second.

Oh right, Raven said that she doesn’t want to be considered African American…..

      Great point.

If the Univision host said a homophobic slur or stereotype about the LGBT community (and the host afterwards said that it was in good natured “humor”), then Raven would be screaming from the rooftops.

Nah, she would not run screaming because she does not categorize herself as LGBTQIA. She refuses to be put in a category. LOL.

She might self identify as xyx but perception is whole ‘nother ball of wax. For the record, she’s an idiot. Right up there with Lee Daniels (with his reverse racism comment), Kanye, Pharell, Common…Conscious people should not support any of these idiots. Keep your money in your pocket.

She certainly needs to wake up concretely on many issues. She needs to understand that racism can be subtle not just overt. One book that talks about this issue in great terms is entitled, “A Hip Hop Activist Speaks on Social Issues” by Solon W.F. Comissiong. The books shows hard hitting facts on how the world is and it gives people advice and solutions to problems. As the old saying goes, we shouldn’t support those who doesn’t support us. That truism is relevant back then and today. We should use our money and resources wisely excluding support for those who won’t support our interests.

it was literally on the legal books for centuries that we were what 1/5 human. Comparing us to animals is connected to a very painful past. I was trying to give Raven the benefit of the doubt when she said she was not African-American but this is too far. Further proof that being a child star is dangerous for your brain cells. This is a woman who has never been exposed to “real life” and “real life” issues apparently. She is a dimwit. Unfortunate. I guess Janet Jackson is the only normal former child star (I hope). Brooke Shields seems normal too. That’s it.

Rosie Perez knows what she is talking about. We know the racism is found in some (not all) Latino people. Rosie Perez broke it down perfectly. There are many Latinos with a lot of black African heritage. I know about the Afro-Latinos and other people who are black just like black Americans. It is important to know that many Afro-Latinos are progressive activists who fighting for the liberation of black people. So, I want to make that perfectly clear.

Raven Symone is 2 years older than me and she should know better. Many of the “New blacks” want to ignore how subtle and slick racism can be. First Lady Michelle Obama never deserved to be disrespected in that fashion and that is why the host was fired. The comment was racist and stupid point blank period. It is a shame that the First Lady of this country has been slandered not only by the Univision host, but from other people who are evil. Raven Symone, Lee Daniels, Don Lemon, and these New “Blacks” have similar views on race and we have the right to disagree with them. Raven Symone doesn’t want to be called African American, which is her right. Yet, I have the right to call myself an AFRICAN AMERICAN AND a BLACK AMERICAN ALL DAY EVERY SINGLE DAY WITHOUT APOLOGY. I hope that Raven Symone embraces more progressive, revolutionary views on race. We all want her to grow and wake up, but we do have the right to disagree with her on some issues.

Calling black people as similar to a science fiction movie about apes has been a known racist tactic. We, as black people, should never put up with this. Regardless of our ideological views, one thing that we should never put up with is when the First Lady is disrespected.

As you have said before, we need the recrudescence of the Black is Beautiful vibe in a higher level in our generation. We won many battles as a people, but in the end, we will win the war. The victory a’int going to come easy, but the victory will come.

Exactly brother truth! Raven Simone is more likely to be called an Ape, rather than a bird. What will she say then? Will she say “Oooh, Ooh, Ah, Ah!” and then walk away? Raven Simone was a potential role model. She had a big influence in the hearts of Americans of all races and cultural. It is said to see that she uses her position to promote this cancerous thought process.

        Hello Brother John Henry.

It is indeed a shame that she is using her fame to defend a person disrespecting the physical appearance of an intelligent and beautiful black woman. If Raven was called an ape to her face, then she would angry (and rightfully so). Post racial propaganda can never free us. Only standing up for truth, respecting our people, and using real action can.

OK. Sooo… Apes, monkeys, those are typically a racists first choice of insults. After the “N” word. Of course. Correct? She finds nothing demeaning, denigrating, or insulting about that? But, because he voted for her husband it makes him non racist. Sigh. My grandmother was Cuban. A country with one of the worst color complex issues. Rosie Perez is absolutely right. I wouldn’t be surprised if back in the days she heard the phrase “pelo malo”. I need Raven to educate herself.

The people who want to destroy the black community will not need to lift a finger. Black people might do it all by ourselves. Whenever there’s a racist act against a person of color, best believe that there will be some black person bending over backwards to explain why it wasn’t racist. We really need to wake up.

Man there are racist in all racial groups. Racist Asian people are the worst, I have had friends and girlfriends from all racial backgrounds but I have found that most of them have sly comments here and there about certain groups. But Latinos, from my experience as a black man, have been the most welcoming out of the bunch. The only time I’ve ever experienced heavy “hate” or “racist remarks” were from Asians. I’ve had country rednecks treat me better than Asians. Maybe it was because they didn’t want their daughters dating me. But still. Regardless, to stereotype a majority would be wrong.
