Who didn’t see this happening? After James Wright Chanel’s ‘Patti Pie’ review went viral on YouTube, he’s become an instant star. And Patti LaBelle’s pies are now legendary. So it makes good sense (cents) for them to team up and do a cooking show.

The Cooking Channel hopped on the idea, and brought the two together for a holiday cooking special.

According to People, LaBelle and Chanel are a match made in cooking heaven. And they’ve forged a friendship instantly.

From People:

“It’s one of those blessed stories,” LaBelle tells PEOPLE. “For his birthday, which is Thanksgiving, we were at my home. I invited him to dinner before I even met him.”

In fact, their first meeting was on the set of the show. “It was his first time seeing me, so when he came into the kitchen, he saw me and my back was turned. He came up behind me and he had on these beautiful leopard pants and a necklace,” the singer says. “We just had a love moment.”

And now, LaBelle sees herself not only as a mentor, but as a mother figure for Chanel. “He’s such a larger than life person himself; he’s like my new son. It’s just a blessing when people come into your life like this and you’re not expecting anything.”

Chanel, who LaBelle says is a good sous chef, is equally thankful for his new friendship with LaBelle.

“When she first called, it was like we’d known each other forever; we talked like we were best friends,” Chanel tells PEOPLE. “I told her, ‘I have to tell my mom that Patti is my new momma too.’ I said, ‘Patti, you my momma!’”

The dynamic duo’s cooking show will air on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 8:30 E.T. on the Cooking Channel.

I’m happy for James. I am also happy that Ms. Patti is letting him get his shine on. It is partly because of her that we were given the gift of Luther Vandross who was content as a background singer. I remember an interview of Luther saying Ms.Patti told him his voice was too good to be just a background singer and that he needed to be out front. I cannot imagine a world without Luther’s voice. Maybe she is doing the same with James.

This story really keeps getting better. Congrats to James Wright, I am sure he thought his video would get a few hits and chuckles but I bet he didn’t know it would bless him with many opportunities and avenue to explore. I will be checking for the special, I need some of Auntie Patti’s Mac & Cheese.

James seems so fun, easy to get along with and genuine so I’m not surprised they took to each other and that he’s getting so many chances in the entertainment world. I wish I could work on that set so I could eat their food *stomach growls*
