Listen: Willow Smith Just Dropped An Album On Us

Much to our surprise, although the 15-year-old singer mysteriously tweeted, “Dec 11th” earlier this month, Willow Smith has released a new album! This morning, she tweeted an iTunes link, directing fans to indulge in the shiny new set of tracks titled Ardipithecus.

“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth,” Willow wrote to The Fader. “I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state. Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs. Ardipithecusis my first album in my entire career and it makes me feel so blessed to be able to share my evolution with the LightEaters as I continue excavating my inner worlds…”

After releasing a series of one-off gems and her 3EP, we finally have a full project from Willow.

Listen to the album on Spotify here.

If I can’t say anything nice, I try to say nothing at all…..

Just thought I’d share. I make 42 bucks doing this gig 6 minutes a day. I know it’s not a lot, but, it really comes in handy. It’s free… you get 30 dollars just for starting.

Love her!!! Love that she is an artistic black girl with the means and the space to express herself and be weird!

She has the space to express herself and be weir because she has money. Money allows creative avenues people can venture down.

I was an artistic kid too and it would have been great to have had a role model like her to look up to, just to know that it was POSSIBLE for a little black girl to be free spirited and creative.

That can happen even without money; you just have to be driven to find your way and other avenues will open up to you. I’m here to tell the tale. I was able to accomplish some of my biggest life dreams before I even had a decent job, with no financial help from rich parents.
