Kerry Washington, Don Cheadle & Alfre Woodard Receive Emmy Nominations

Nominees for the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood.  Rounding up the nominations, Kerry Washington  became the first African American woman to earn a best actress Emmy nomination in 18 years, for her portrayal of Olivia Pope in “Scandal”. Cicely Tyson was the last African-American actress nominated in that category in 1995 for her NBC legal drama “Sweet Justice,” but she  lost to “Picket Fences” star Kathy Baker.

Washington has some tough competition ahead of her, especially considering a black actress hasn’t won the category in the Emmy Awards’ 65 year history. Washington’s fellow nominees are  Connie Britton of “Nashville,” Claire Danes of “Homeland,” “Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery, Vera Farmiga of “Bates Motel” and Robin Wright in the Netflix series “House of Cards.”

Don Cheadle, star of Showtime’s “House of Lies,” was nominated for a second time for Lead Actor in a Comedy nomination.  He’s up against Alec Baldwin of “30 Rock,” Jason Bateman of “Arrested Development,” “Louie” star Louis C.K., Matt LeBlanc of “Episodes” and Jim Parsons of “The Big Bang Theory.”

Alfre Woodard was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for  “Steel Magnolias”.

Congratulations to all of the nominees!

    Oh snap; 3 out of 200? That’s like a record isn’t it?

I love television, so I always watch the Emmys, but I’ll have my fingers crossed extra hard for Kerry Washington this year.

Good luck to Kerry Washington. It kinda makes sense that a black actress has never won an emmy for best actress as they never are the lead in TV shows. Kerry is the first black women in 40 years to be lead character in a prime time TV fiction,

Vera Farmiga is outstanding in Bates Motel.

It is an honor but I don’t think Kerry is that good of an actress. She acts with her lips. I know I will get attacked for saying that but I just don’t think she is any good.

I do love Don in House of Lies. That’s one of my favorite shows. Both Kerry and Don have some tough competition! I hope they win!
