Every Man Needs A Friend Like Rihanna

If every man had a friend like Rihanna early in life, wives and girlfriends wouldn’t have to spend so much time upgrading their boos down the line.

The queen of no effs given appeared on the third episode of J Cole’s Road to Homecoming HBO miniseries, and while she told Cole his performance was something the audience would remember forever, all most viewers remember from episode 3 is how beautifully Rihanna mastered the art of constructive criticism.

See, as soon as Rih Rih spotted Cole backstage she went up to him and showered him with praise, saying his performance was “Amazing. Very deep but real, honest, vulnerable, confident – it was all of that. It wasn’t on no commercial sh-t at all. It was so good. I love seeing you like that. And seeing you close to the people – and seeing you in a small venue like that. This is the sh-t they’re gonna remember forever.”

And then within two seconds of complimenting her boy she asked, “You a Rasta now? What the f-ck? This n-gga got dreads.”

What followed was a hilarious exchange only a good girl friend could get away with as Rihanna went in on J Cole’s freeform hairstyle, giving him a few helpful (and necessary) grooming tips.

“We gotta get you some aloe vera for them,” she advised. “That’s how you clean it. It’s not gone f-ck with it, It’s gone make it smell nice.”

And somewhere J Cole’s girlfriend is like “thank God, somebody told him!”

Sometimes the artsy types get caught up in being creative and forget the basics…like hygiene…kudos to Rih for handling that situation real quick.

    For the author to assume that freeform locs are an indicator of this individual’s or anyone with freeform locs (artistic or not) level of hygiene is a beacon of the author’s ignorance. …..shine on

    Lol, that was funny. Just Riri being herself. Love it.

    Btw, the author was just stating that sometimes (SOMETIMES) the “artsy types” get caught up and forget hygienic basics. I don’t feel as if it was ignorant or off base at all, as was previously stated. This is sometimes true.

    This story in the video is light hearted. Rihanna has always been honest with how she thinks. Also, it is important to note that tons of people with locs have great hygiene too.

      I agree, but I think it’s assumed that lots of people do have great hygiene. Rihanna was just being lighthearted and messing with her friend. I don’t think she nor the author meant anything serious or all-inclusive with their comments. She was just giving her boy some advice.

        To me, the video wasn’t that deep. Of course, I don’t agree with Rihanna on every issue, but we have more important issues as a community. I don’t believe that the author of the article viewed everyone with locs as lacking in hygiene.

    Do they smell? Why did she say that? Why would he have to told to keep his hair clean? He’s a grown man who should know how take care of his hygiene.

      @Mary Burrell

      Exactly. Maybe it’s me, but I thought Rihanna was being a jerk. I certainly did not see why this is an example of a friend every man needs to have.

    I think RiRi was being a B____h. We all know she is famous for this out of pocket behavior. However, my family is from caribbean descent and they love to give back handed compliments like this.
