Deadline TV Editor Cries About Too Much Diversity on Television

In today’s “Whatchu talkin’ about, Willis?” news, a writer for Deadline has an issue with all of the diversity being displayed on television that’s now leaving white actors unemployed.

And the internet went:

after reading the piece of garbage.

Nellie Andreeva’s white tears received no love after what people perceived as blatant racism after reading her post.

Here’s a snippet of what everyone is angry about:

“Instead of opening the field for actors of any race to compete for any role in a color-blind manner, there has been a significant number of parts designated as ethnic this year, making them off-limits for Caucasian actors, some agents signal. Many pilot characters this year were listed as open to all ethnicities, but when reps would call to inquire about an actor submission, they frequently have been told that only non-Caucasian actors would be considered,” Andreeva wrote.

And in conclusion, this is pretty much the only apropos response to Andreeva:

When the child ends up sassy and disrespectful, some will be wondering what went wrong.

White folks just cannot let us or anyone for that matter live. They are literally genetically predisposed to tearing down anyone with they feel inferior to. And in that case that’s EVERYONE because when given the chance and breaking through the barriers they put in place most people excel farther then them. They just refuse to accept full, unapologetic, equality. Someone always has to be the victim for every success and usually it’s them prevailing over some perceived injustice. She’s a complete POS but a manifestation of a deep seeded hatred for the success and advancement of others who don’t look like her. I’m disgusted!

i knew this backlash was coming. b/t black-ish, fresh off the boat, empire, and jane the virgin, i knew the “white genocide” type of racists would be coming out the woodworks this yr. i think they lose at least 10% of their water weight in tears any time they see something being done w/o them being the majority & in control. god forbid an all black, or all latino/a, or all chinese cast be thought up. everybody knows black families are surrounded by whites, right? everybody knows chinese families are surrounded by whites. & who ever heard of a non-white latino family? idiots. sometimes i really just don’t even have enough words for the stupidity of racists.

Regardless of how people feel about Empire, some white people, who are complaining about diversity in the TV industry, truly are trying to disguise their own hypocrisy. For over one century, Hollywood and the television screen has not only restricted talented black actors and actresses from being in that world, but they have shown vicious, false stereotypes about black people. My view is that we need to encourage qualified, talented black actors and black actresses. This is a new generation and some reactionaries want to have nostalgia for a time where black people were even in fewer opportunities than today. For decades, white actresses have portrayed even Native Americans and other ethnic groups in a racist fashion, yet Nellie never mentioned this fact of history. Today, black actresses and others have told their stories about struggling to receive roles all of the time. This is why it is even more necessary for us as a community to promote progressive, fair, and strong shows that describe our experiences accurately. Nellie Andreeva’s article (which I profoundly disagree) outlines her subconscious white guilt and an omission of many keys facts about the struggles of black people in the acting occupation.

color-blind? now i remember. that’s when caucasians put on black-face to play black roles; or, when caucasians play native americans, latin americans, asians, etc. i.e., johnny depp as tonto, angelina jolie to play cleopatra, etc. there is also a little something hollywood calls ‘race bending’ – changing the race of the original characters in books and plays although this worked out really well for morgan freeman as red in shawshank redemption. and, just how many tv series are there with zero caucasians in recurring roles — blackish, empire, fresh off the boat …
