The Tupac biopic is finally taking shape and the latest casting news makes for a very promising production.

Entertainment Weekly reports Danai Gurira has been cast to play Tupac’s mom, Afeni Shakur, in the upcoming film, All Eyez On Me.

Walking Dead fans are quite familiar with Danai as the fearless sword slinging heroine Michonne on the hit AMC show and  now we’ll see another side of her on screen as she plays the mother to Demetrius Shipp Jr.’s Pac.

According to EW,  All Eyez on Me will “chronicle Tupac’s rise to stardom as a hip-hop artist and actor, his imprisonment for sexual assault, his time at the controversial label Death Row Records, and his involvement in the East Coast-West Coast rap feud of the 1990s.”

While we still don’t have a release date for the project, production is currently underway in Atlanta under the direction of Benny Boom. Jamal Woolard, star of Notorious, will once again reprise his role as Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls, for the film.

It’s a great opportunity. Sister Danai Gurira is a very talented actress. Many people have to be reminded that Afeni Shakur is an extremely conscious human being. She was part of the Panther 21 group. This group was a group of black Panthers from New York City. They were falsely accused of planning terrorism in New York City. All Panther 21 members were acquitted of all charges. What we do find is that the FBI, the NYPD, and other intelligence agencies worked together to harm the Black Panthers in New York City. Afeni Shakur shown Tupac Shakur love, and knowledge as a strong mother. I wish the best for the project, because lessons should be learned from the past. Tupac Shakur was a very talented black man and his life was cut short by evil people who were jealous of him. We use our time on this Earth to not only have fun, but to meditate and to ascertain wisdom (which will be beneficial for us and for the rest of the human race). Afeni Shakur, to this very day, has worked diligently in foundations, charities, and other groups to assist people and to cultivate the gifts of others. Yes, Dana Gurira is a gorgeous woman with beautiful chocolate skin and a great personality. In the end, we shall overcome.

I sure hope Ms. Afeni is behind this-and they can use his real music! I thought John Singleton left the production because they weren’t being true to Tupac’s story and Afeni was not working with production. We shall see I guess.
