The Carters are under fire after family photos surfaced online of the Bey and Blue playing with a baby tiger during their recent visit to Thailand. And apparently — World Animal Protection wildlife expert Dr. Jan Schmidt-Burbach is not happy about it.

“A tiger is not a plaything,” she said in a statement. “Their health and well-being should not be sacrificed for a photo opportunity. When you look behind the scenes, vacation snaps like these support an industry that relies on animal cruelty… this sordid side of tourism is conveniently hidden from public view.”

Schmidt-Burbach also offered advice for travelers to make sure they don’t make the same mistake as The Carters:

“I urge anyone who is thinking about posing with a wild animal to watch World Animal Protection’s video to learn the facts before they book their next vacation,” she suggested. “Once people know the truth, they can take action to end this cruelty by choosing to see wild animals in the wild where they belong.”

I support the World Animal Protection’s stance. I’ve been to Thailand and seen the deplorable conditions that individuals keep these ‘exotic’ animals in and it’s heartbreaking that these animals’ lives are disrespected so much. These wild, endangered animals are not playthings and Westerners, especially Westerns like this couple who travel so much, should learn the value of ecotourism and experiencing the company of wild animals in their natural habitat–not on a table for display.

So blame westerner not the Taiwanese?
I’m confused, this was a zoo. You angry at them for taking their daughter to a zoo? Parents take their kids to the zoo every weekend, so I’m not throwing stones.

From what I could see, I see a picture of parents with their daughter and a tiger cub that is stretching across said kid’s lap just so the cub could feed from a bottle. There’s no description what type of tiger sanctuary they are visiting, so I cannot draw any conclusions about the property’s condition.
