During a recent interview with The Fader, Atlanta-bred Hip Hop Artist Makonnen Sheran a.k.a ILoveMakonnen was asked whether or not he had been following the Black Lives Matter movement or the late November incident where yet another unarmed black man being shot by police in Minneapolis.
His response was, “Yeah, but not really though. All lives matter and that’s how I’ve always been. Just to be like, “Oh I’m pro black and for black lives.” Fuck that because when my friends were dying in Atlanta and there were black lives and white lives taking black lives and all that bullshit. That was when we needed the Black Lives [Matter] campaign to come campaign for us. I aint got time for all ya’ll and all that bullshit now. You only do the shit when it’s convenient. All lives always have mattered. Fuck out my face telling me black lives matter, or saying white lives matter, or any fucking life matters. If don’t all lives matter than no lives fucking matter. That’s how I feel and until we down for that shit, don’t ask me to come comment on shit. I ain’t got nothing to say because I know what’s been going on.
Buy my damn EP and see me at the show, that’s what I do. That’s why I’m on earth and that’s what motherfuckers are paying me to do and that’s what people are all making a living off of so let me stay in my line in that rotation. I’m not running for no fucking politics to try to change y’all. It’s too late for ya’ll. I’m trying to help teach the kids if anything. I need to be a schoolteacher when I finish rapping.”
Do you think he should have answered the question a little differently or do you appreciate his brash (albeit somewhat ignorant) honesty?

Don’t know who he is.
Don’t care.
He will get his wake-up call.
His type always does.
December 4, 2015 -
He probably has a young white fanbase he doesn’t want to alienate. And he may be one of those mixed people who doesn’t strongly identify with the black community…then again we have celebs with two black parents out here acting brand new too so whatever
December 4, 2015 -
He’s a sellout and a disrespectful person.
His response was revolting. How dare he slander a movement. How dare he disrespect his ancestors (who are black) with his vile lies. How dare he come out and he doesn’t know a single hing about what the BLM movement is or the history of Atlanta. If he knew the history of Atlanta, he would know that civil rights leaders stood up against police brutality and other forms of racism for years. He said that he doesn’t want to be in politics. That’s his right. Also, it is our right to be involved in social justice movements. He is more concerned bout his money than about real justice. While this lying coward slams many black people risking their lives for a better future, he forgets that black people have protested and opposed intraracial crime for decades. Also, his words signify how some of these New Blacks don’t have the courage and the strength of people like Dr. King, Ella Baker, and Malcolm X. They don’t have heart of a warrior, but they love to get a paycheck as a result of degrading black people. So, in conclusion:
#Black Lives Matter.
December 4, 2015 -
The sad thing is many blacks young and old think just like him and act dumb like him also.
December 4, 2015 -
Indeed. Some people will not wake up.
December 5, 2015 -
The ones that are asleep will be lost.
December 4, 2015 -
Says the fool who shot and killed his own friend…
December 4, 2015 -
Ok, when you say “All Lives Matter”, you’re still secretly saying “Black Lives Matter” so in the end, “All Lives Matter” defeats the purpose of silencing black folks, but that said, this guy is out of touch. If he actually followed the movement, he would know what it is about. You can’t say fuck black lives matter cause they weren’t in Atlanta when I was young, as if this movement is that old. It just started last year. If he cared about violence in Atlanta, why didn’t he start a movement? Why is it always up to someone else to help your own community when you know the problems there and if concerned you can try to help. People like this make me sick. Anything to silence other blacks and not realizing, or realizing, they have so much internalized anti blackness that a movement to talk about police brutality against blacks is offensive to them. We as black people are not supposed to have anything because of the conditioning in this country. Black pride, healthy black communities, black love equals white degradation to whites, blacks or others. Quite frankly, I’m sick of it.
December 6, 2015 -
Thank you! If you are soon concerned about violence in your community why don’t YOU do something about it!
December 6, 2015 -
Great Words. We believe in healthy black communities, more Black Love, and we love our Blackness.
December 4, 2015 -
Who?
December 4, 2015 -
“I’m not running for no fucking politics to try to change y’all. It’s too late for ya’ll. I’m trying to help teach the kids if anything. I need to be a schoolteacher when I finish rapping”. The irony that comes form the mouth of a coon. I can’t with these white marshmallow suckers. Why is is it so hard to understand the movement. I really cant with coons. Not today. GTFOH -_-
December 4, 2015 -
Harpo who dis fool? Boy bye.
December 4, 2015 -
Preach.
December 4, 2015 -
Fuck, he don’t matter not does his coon ass opinion. NEXT! Stop asking these opportunity fucks their opinions on shit, especially, when it comes to African-Americans.
Fool, looking for an opportunity to matter when he doesn’t.
December 4, 2015 -
He is just uber ignorant.
December 4, 2015 -

December 5, 2015 -
If this obscure, ignorant, wannabe thug clown was shot and killed by cops BlackLivesMatter would be the first group of people who would protest for him and his family.
December 5, 2015 -
Exactly Sister. This coward has some nerve.

Who is he? That excerpt was completely unintelligent and incoherent. Like one poster said he’ll get his wake up call soon enough.
