Vaseline – Isn’t Just For Ash

As a kid, I hated vaseline. In the winters my mother would lather our faces with it before we headed off to school. But when you’re walking in -10 degree weather in Upstate NY, you appreciated the extra layer of goop, to protect your face from the cold, harsh weather. Although I’m no longer using it as a cold barrier, vaseline does serve its purpose in other areas of my beauty routine.

  1. Tame Unruly Brows – My eyebrows have a mind of their own. Applying a little helps to keep the stray hairs in place.
  2. Prime Eyes – I’ve learned by adding a layer to my eyes, it keeps my eyeshadow in place longer. Add a little vaseline to your eyeshadow to make a creamy based shadow
  3. Moisturize your cuticles – dap a little on before you head to bed, you’ll appreciate the difference in the morning.
  4. Exfoliation- add some sea salt to your vaseline, and it’ll make the perfect body scrub!
  5. Tame Those Fly-Aways– Just like tip #1, vaseline can be used if you’re constantly dealing with fly aways if you’re wearing your hair straight. A little goes a long way, too much is never good.
  6. Protection & Soothing– My mother was on to something during those cold winters. Use it as a barrier during the winter months. Also, vaseline helps with cracked skin and cold sores.

    Vaseline has saved lives in Africa. Ma pippoz be shining all day erryday!! Come rain or sunshine, every household, rich or poor has invested in this invaluable asset. I won’t be surprised if some tried to cook with it.

      @African Mami

      LOL, the shining does not start in the AM it starts after chores are done & a shower taken usually around 3.00pm on-words, oh the joys of strolling in the neighborhood looking spiffy.

        eiiii, my dear your village is toooooo backwards for mine. We start shining as sooon as the rooster kookoorukuoo’s! Even when we go to the river to fetch water, we are shining. That’s our bling and that’s how we boast of wealth. The more shine, the more class.

    The new coca butter formula of Vaseline is also amazing!

    I use it for many of the same things you mentioned, and here are a few more beauty tips using Vaseline:

    * After scrubbing off dead skin on your feet, cover with vaseline and then put on your coziest winter socks, your feet will be super soft in the morning

    *I put the cocoa butter formula on my lips every night so I wake up to luscious and kissable lips in the morning

    *If you want to experiment with crazy colors on your lips, you can make your own lip tints by combining a little eye shadow or blush with Vaseline and applying to the lips with a brush. I use lip balm underneath to act as a primer.

    Still using it as a cold barrier 🙂 I run in the early AM when its 30 degrees, and I hate wearing a face mask so I put it on my face and lips!

    Good for body and hands. I couldn’t put too much on my face though, I need the skin on my face to breathe; too thick and greasy for the face.

    Oooorrrr, you could use pure coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, avocado oil, etc. These are also amazing and can be used on your skin, hair, and internally. Sorry, I just discovered the powers of oils and they are AMAZING, work for everything, and their 100% natural so I know EXACTLY waht I’m using.I replaced all of my lotions, vaseline, etc. with oils and butters and just wanted to share my excitement at the results!
